Summer ’23 Salesforce Flow: New Features and Enhancements

Salesforce consistently enhances its platform by introducing hundreds of new features and enhancements with every release, catering to the evolving demands of its customers. These updates are aimed at delivering a more seamless user experience and meeting emerging business requirements.

This provides businesses with  an opportunity to prepare for and adapt to the latest changes in the platform, ensuring a smooth transition and maximum benefit from the new features. And it also enables them to explore the new functionalities before the general release and better prepare for the upcoming changes.

Salesforce Flow is one such automation tool that enables users to automate complex business processes, streamline workflows, and enhance productivity.

With the release of Summer ’23, Salesforce Flow has received a host of new features and enhancements that promise to make it an even more valuable asset for businesses of all sizes.

In this blog post, we will explore some of the most exciting new features and enhancements in Salesforce Flow in Summer ’23, and discuss how they can benefit businesses that want to optimize their processes and workflows.

1. R.I.P. Process Builder

In order to streamline and simplify the automation process on the Salesforce platform, changes are being made to the tools available. As of the Summer’23 release, the creation of new Process Builders will no longer be possible, although existing processes can still be modified and new versions created. This update follows the successful implementation of disabling the ability to create new Workflow Rules last year. Going forward, Flow will be the sole no-code automation tool available on the platform, providing users with a single, powerful solution for all their automation needs. This Update will not cause any trouble to the Developer edition Orgs.

2. Changes to the Flow Builder Interface

Salesforce is introducing changes to the Flow Builder Interface, including an upgraded color scheme for Flow elements. In the past, to add a new element to an auto-layout Flow, users were required to hover over the (0) icon and click on the (+) plus sign. However, in the upcoming Spring ’23 release, the (+) plus sign will be readily available by default, making it easy to add new elements. The objective of these modifications is to enhance the user experience and simplify the Flow building process within Salesforce.

3. New Feature to Log Emails

There are various methods to send an email through Flow in Salesforce. You can do so by using the Action option. In the upcoming Summer’23 version, a new feature will allow users to log emails sent to a designated record’s timeline. This can be accomplished by specifying the lightning email template’s ID in the Send Email Action within the Flow. To set up the Send Email action appropriately, it is essential to designate the Recipient ID and Related Record ID while also assigning the selected template’s ID. These values play a critical role in populating the merge fields of the template accurately.

4. Reactive Screen Components

Reactive screen components offer the ability to configure your screen elements to respond dynamically to user interactions on the same screen. For instance, in the aforementioned illustration, the number of days and the day of the week are determined based on the user’s input.

Steps to enable and use the Reactive Screens Beta feature in Salesforce:-

  1. Go to the Process Automation Settings page in Setup.
  2. Check the “Opt in to Reactive Screens Beta” option and agree to the Unified Pilot Research Agreement for using the feature in your org.
  3. Add the necessary components to your screen.
  4. Make sure the API names are set for all the output components.
  5. In another component, set the appropriate input to an output from the previously set component.
  6. Save the changes and run the flow as usual.
  7. Notice that the input component now reacts to changes from the output component.

Follow these steps to get started with using the Reactive Screens Beta feature in Salesforce.

5. HTTP Callout

To test the reactive screen functionality, one can generate a Screen Flow. In the Spring’23 update, Salesforce introduced an influential capability named HTTP Callout that allows users to make calls to external web services. While this feature was initially in beta and only supported the GET method, it is thrilling to learn that HTTP Callout will now be generally available in the forthcoming Summer’23 release, and will also support the POST method. This enhancement will provide users with more flexibility in interacting with external systems, enabling them to create more comprehensive integrations and streamline their business processes.

6. A New Search Bar

The latest version of the Migrate to Flow tool enables the seamless migration of scheduled actions from process builders to Scheduled Paths within a Flow. It is important to keep in mind that this functionality will only be accessible when a single row of criteria is selected in the process builder. If the user selects multiple rows, only the direct paths will be transferred, and a notification message will be displayed. This enhancement in functionality ensures a smooth and error-free migration process, making it easier for users to manage their scheduled actions within a Flow.

Summing Up

The Summer ’23 release of Salesforce Flow boasts several new features and enhancements that aim to improve user experience and streamline the process of building Flows. From the addition of search bars to the Data table component to the HTTP Callout feature’s general availability and support for the POST method, these changes offer significant improvements to the platform’s functionality.
